Baby Animals

By theguideto

It’s almost impossible not to smile or laugh whenever you see baby animals. Whether it’s a little Labrador pup, a Siamese kitten, a baby chick or a tiny baby bunny, baby animals are not only cute but also adorable. There’s just something about these little creatures that makes you want to reach out and cuddle them in your arms whenever you see them.

Many people find baby animals so irresistible that they use them as photography subjects. You can easily find baby animal pictures used as PC wallpapers, as illustrations in posters, advertisements, and sometimes, as subjects for paintings.

With so many animal species, it’s easy to lose track as to which baby belongs to which adult. You may be familiar with common baby animals such as kittens, puppies and calves, but what about eyass, goslings and joeys? Would you recognize them if you saw them in pictures? Do you know what they grow up to be?

Have you heard of these baby animals?

There are numerous baby animals that are not very well known, but they do grow into interesting creatures that are familiar to us. Here are a few examples.

  • Eft - Most people refer to them as baby newts. Eft, however, is the proper term to refer to newts that are past the tadpole stage and can live a terrestrial life. Efts develop a few months after the eggs hatch into tadpoles and after they undergo metamorphosis. These newt younglings can be colorful or plain, depending on their breed.
  • Peachick - When peachicks mature, they transform into beautiful, colorful “fanned” birds we know as peahens (female) or peacocks (male).
  • Pup - Aside from the shortened term for “puppy” (as in baby dogs), the term pup can also refer to baby sea lions. These mammals are among the smartest marine creature that you often see performing tricks in aquariums and zoos.
  • Gosling – Among other breeds, these baby animals grow into the lovable birds that “bring babies” to people’s doorsteps. A gosling is a baby stork. When they grow up, they turn into the large, long-necked and long-legged wading birds with protruding bills.
