baby Nursery

Your little angel has just arrived in this world. As proud parents, you must prepare the things your baby will need every day. You need to arrange the furniture, including the crib, high chair, and the baby closet. You need to prepare the toys, the bedding and the blankets that your child will need. With all these items in tow, your house can become a mess. You will need a nursery where you can arrange all these items.

A baby nursery is a room or area in the house that is arranged especially for accommodating an infant. It contains all the furniture, appliances, toys, entertainment items, and feeding and sleeping materials that parents need for taking care of the infant. It not only serves as a sleeping and playtime area for your child, but it also is his or her personal space.

Having a nursery also makes it easier for the parents. Since everything that they’ll need is in one room, they’ll have less fuss moving around the house to fetch different items for their infant.

A baby nursery can be small or large, depending on what the parents want. Some nurseries only contain basic baby necessities, such as the crib and closet. Some even have expensive decorative fixtures around them. A baby nursery can be made especially for newborns, while some are designed to suit toddlers.

The common trend when it comes to baby nurseries is having a theme for the room. While some parents opt for simple, less intricately-styled rooms, some parents decorate them lavishly. Often, these designs incorporate different factors and elements, such as the furniture, the bedding, the flooring or carpeting and even the wallpaper. Usually, themes such as cartoon characters, color schemes, fairy tales or baby patterns (teddy bears, clouds or dolls) are used for baby nursery designs.

Whatever the size or design you use for your nursery, what’s important is that your nursery is “babyproof.” The room should be safe and free from elements that could cause harm to the child. Here are a few important things to remember when it comes to baby nursery safety.

  • Keep small items away from your child’s reach. As soon as your infant learns to move around or explore, he or she becomes more inclined to picking up and placing small items inside his or her mouth. Make sure you keep small toys, pins and buttons on top of dressers or inside cabinets to prevent the child from picking them up. You should also sweep the nursery floor regularly for stray items that your child might accidentally pick up.
  • Choose furniture that is well-anchored to the walls. Shelves, dressers and cabinets that are not anchored can pose a tipping and crushing hazard to your child.
  • Make sure all electrical outlets are covered and that cords are not visible or can be tripped upon. Unorganized items such as these can cause electric shock hazards for your infant.
  • Hot items such as lamps and heaters should be out of the infant’s reach.

With these things in mind, you will surely create a nursery where you’re child will be safe from accidents.
