Baby Shower

By theguideto

You and your spouse have just heard the wonderful news—you’re having a baby! For many couples, this is one of the most joyful times in their lives. Much has to be done for the coming of the little one, and, as the day gets closer, you just can’t help but feel more and more excited.

Traditionally, pregnant couples throw a party to celebrate the arrival of their little angel. This party is called a baby shower. A baby shower is a joyous gathering when the expecting couple eat and socialize with their friends, families and colleagues while happily toasting to the birth their baby.

At a baby shower, a couple receives gifts for their baby. As a result, they can spend less money on their child’s needs. In many countries, throwing a baby shower has become an enjoyable practice integrated with the responsibility of parenthood.

The tradition of giving baby showers began in the late 1800s. When a woman became pregnant, people believed that she and her unborn infant must be “showered” with attention and love in the form of practical and handmade gifts.

The first baby showers were simple afternoon tea parties to which close friends and family members of the pregnant woman were invited. This is probably why baby showers today are usually directed towards women, although there are some that cater to men, such as the “daddy’s shower.”

Currently, baby showers are held either as morning, afternoon or evening events. These can take place in different venues, such as restaurants, hotels, bars, or in the house of the parents-to-be. Baby showers can be casual and simple or very elegant, depending on the theme chosen by the host or the planner.

Aside from eating, gift giving and gift opening, baby showers also have a lot of fun games for the guests. Diaper-throw games, baby shower bingo, and guessing the baby’s sex are just a few examples of games held during the event.
