Carpet installation is not an easy matter to deal with. Apart from the costs you have to incur for the materials, you have to get your home prepared for the big day. The challenge is greater if you plan to do the installation yourself. This is especially true if you’ll be doing it for the very first time.

Through Thick or Thin

If you find it hard to decide between thick or thin padding for your carpet, no need to fret about it. You actually have two basic guides. One is the surface on which the carpet will go and the other is the type of carpet that will be installed on top of the padding.

It’s pretty simple. If you’re installing the carpet on a hard surface, such as stone flooring, it’s advisable that you go for thicker padding. If, however, you’re dealing with wooden flooring, thinner padding will do.

Step to Divine Flooring

The very first step you have to do before installation is to get all pieces of furniture and other materials out of the room. You have to make sure that the flooring is all ready for the process. This requires vacuuming once you have removed the old carpet and padding.

Before you lay out the carpet, double-check that is the right color, style and texture. After all, you don’t want to end up with a yellow carpet with cerulean stars when your wife instructed you to get a plain cream-colored carpet.

You basically have two choices when it comes to fastening your carpet to the floor. One is with the use of brad nails or staples. While this is a standard choice among professional installers, it usually results in wrinkles, ripples and pulls in the flooring.

The second and better choice is the adhesive. With an adhesive, you can better secure your carpet, plus you avoid unsightly marks like wrinkles on your flooring.

Once you have installed the whole thing, you should have your room properly ventilated. This is a good way of letting your carpet adjust to its new environment. You can achieve this by opening all doors and windows of the rooms. Make sure also to run all exhaust fans as well.
