Type 1 Diabetes

• (previously called “juvenile onset diabetes”).  Type 1 Diabetes is characterized by the body’s inability to produce insulin.  It is treated with diet, exercise, and insulin injections.

Type 2 Diabetes

• Type 2 Diabetes is characterized by the body’s inability to use insulin.  It can sometimes lead to the development of type 1 diabetes.  Type 2 Diabetes is often manageable through diet and exercise.
