Used Tuxedo

By theguideto

Being a newly inducted diplomat, you are surprised to be invited in so many formal events one after the other. Last week you just found yourself at a welcome party for the new ambassador of Mauritius. Last night, you were asked to escort the Queen from the airport to the palace. Tonight, you are invited to a dinner party by the Prime Minister of Japan. There would’ve been no problem, really. It’s just that you don’t have a tuxedo in your closet and you are spending so much on tux rentals.

They say that renting a tux is better than buying one because it is more practical. It is true in most cases but not all the time. People who always find themselves attending parties one after another, mingling with important people must have at least one tuxedo. It doesn’t have to be a Ralph Lauren or a Calvin Klein. As long as you have a decent tux in your closet, you’ll do fine. But if you really can’t afford to buy brand new, a used tuxedo won’t hurt.

In buying a hand-me-down tuxedo, here are some tips to guide you.

Classic is Classy

Other colors may look fun and exciting but for a person with a budget as tight as yours, get a black or a dark blue tuxedo. These two colors are the standard colors. You can wear a black or dark blue tux for any event or occasion, be it formal or semi-formal, daytime or evening.

Light is Right

For comfort, the tuxedo that you should choose is one with a modern design and is made of a lightweight material. Older tuxedos are usually made of heavier materials and they are very difficult to deal with during formal events. They tend to be a little uncomfortable. Remember that you will be wearing a tuxedo all night long and sometimes, you have to dance in it too.

Spot the Blots

If you have chosen a used tuxedo to purchase, don’t close the deal without looking closely at the item. Examine the tuxedo and look for any damage. A tux retired from rentals will give you a good opportunity to bargain with the seller. However, it depends on how nasty the damage is. You don’t want to wear a tux with a screaming hole in it. Also, you don’t want to be in one that looks like it was worn by gangsters during the Great Depression.

Buying a used tuxedo is a wise move because it can save you money. One tux is enough for you to survive a world filled with formal parties because they don’t happen everyday. All you need is one of high-quality that you can use over and over again.
