What is a wedding without a wedding cake? A wedding cake plays an important part in wedding traditions as it symbolizes the sweetness and the solid foundation of the new couple. Some prefer buying directly from wedding cake suppliers while some opt to make their very own cakes. Should you decide to bake your own wedding cake, here are a few simple tips.

A wedding cake that is easy to make is the classic white wedding cake. This recipe is perfect for small scale weddings. If you are planning to invite about a hundred people, simply multiply this recipe five times to make enough servings for your guests.

To make this recipe, you will need the following ingredients: three cups of cake flour, four teaspoons of baking powder, 1 ½ teaspoons of salt, five egg whites, six tablespoons of sugar, 2/3 cup of shortening, 1 2/3 cups of sugar, 1 1/3 cups of milk, 1 ½ teaspoons of vanilla, and ¼ teaspoon of almond extract.

Start by sifting the flour, the salt and the baking powder. Next, get a medium-sized bowl and beat the eggs until they are foamy. Add a total of six tablespoons of sugar, putting in one tablespoon at a time and continue beating it until the mixture stands in soft peaks.

On a separate bowl, put the sugar and cream and lightly beat the mixture until it is fluffy and light. Add the flour, alternating it with the milk. Add the egg white mixture and beat it for another minute or until the mixture is smooth.

Pour into a greased baking pan and bake in a 350 degree preheated oven. After cooking, let the mixture cool for ten minutes and then add white frosting. Decorate your wedding cake by piping on different icing colors. Choose simple patterns such as scallops, shells and flowers.
